Walmart Sustainability Reporting Cycle To Open With New Requirements

While Walmart has not yet announced the date the Sustainability Portal will open, we anticipate that the portal will become available shortly after Labor Day (September 2, 2024) and close shortly after Halloween (October 31, 2024).

As in previous years, Walmart has made some updates to the portal. Most notably, Walmart has increased the difficulty of achieving Giga-Guru and Sparking Change status, adding requirements around reporting your company’s renewable energy consumption percentage, absolute reduction targets, and relevant scope 3 emissions. The Giga-Guru requirements over the last few years are summarized below.

2022 Requirements

  • Set a SMART Goal in 3+ pillars or set a Science Based Target

  • Report Impact in 3+ pillars


2023 Requirements

  • Set a SMART Goal in 3+ pillars or set a Science Based Target

  • Report Impact in 3+ pillars

  • Share your carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2)


2024 Requirements

  • Set a SMART Goal in 3+ pillars or set a Science Based Target

  • Report Impact in 3+ pillars

  • Share your carbon footprint (Scopes 1 and 2), ensuring it is at least 95% complete

  • Share renewable energy consumption percentage

  • Share Scope 1 and 2 absolute reduction target details

  • Share information on which Scope 3 emissions categories are relevant for your business and the current state of calculation
