Communications and Business Development Lead
The Communications and Business Development Lead will report directly to the MTI CEO & Founder and will collaborate closely with MTI’s Directors and Program Managers on various sustainability initiatives. This role will lead the communications and branding strategy for MTI, development of project proposals, research and build relationships with prospective clients, and identify opportunities to strengthen relationships with existing clients. The successful candidate will also be responsible for creating tailored marketing and communications assets for both potential and current clients, focusing on sustainability strategies, zero waste initiatives, sustainable packaging, and regenerative agricultural practices, utilizing the expertise of our internal subject matter experts.
Primary Responsibilities
Prospective and New Client Services:
Manage internal processes for strategic business development.
Research prospective clients, delivering regular updates to maintain a continuous pipeline.
Draft and present proposals, including contracts, to potential clients.
Cultivate and maintain client relationships, ensuring our services are delivered professionally and in line with our brand.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with prospective clients.
Marketing Support:
Draft articles, blogs, press releases, and case studies for external communications.
Manage and grow MTI’s digital presence – website, social media, etc.
Support CEO & Founder, Directors, and Managers with talking points and presentations for events, conferences, and panels.
Participate in public speaking engagements as requested
Current Client Support:
Assist Directors and Managers in developing on-brand, consistent client resources, including detailed reports and presentations, to help clients achieve their sustainability goals.
Internal Support:
Track and maintain records of proposals, clients, conferences, donations, and other key metrics, providing monthly updates with the intent to grow MTI business.
Manage budgets for client-related projects and internal MTI expenses.
Support the MTI CEO & Founder, Directors, and Managers in continual research and development of MTI’s core services.
Assist in other tasks as needed to ensure the success of the team and MTI’s mission.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Sustainability, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of professional experience.
Experience in sustainability, environmental policy, or agriculture is required.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking.
Ability to work both independently and as part of an innovative, entrepreneurial team.
High attention to detail and a strong capacity for absorbing and applying new knowledge.
Willingness to occasionally travel for client meetings and site visits; must have access to reliable transportation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and design tools such as Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, and others.
Preference for candidates residing in California.
